Interesting FactThis is a rather rare banknote especially in such pristine condition and with serial number 255555. The note depicts A. Somoza, two-time president of Nicaragua from 1937 to 1947 and from 1950 to 1956. Having said that, he effectively started a "dynasty" with the Somoza family ruling the country for 44 years over three generations. There is a very interesting myth concerning A. Somoza, when US President Roosevelt supposedly remarked in 1939 that "Somoza may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch." (source: Wikipedia). It was asserted by Andrew Crawley (author of the book "Somoza and Roosevelt: Good Neighbour Diplomacy in Nicaragua, 1933-1945"), that this is probably a myth created by Somoza himself, perhaps to demonstrate his close relationship with the US and as a message that his actions in the country would not be interfered.

This note forms part of the "Dictators" series in my collection.
